The missions of the GDR

The missions of the GDR are detailled with the available link. They can be summed up as: To favour the links in the Geographical Information research domain. It allows trans-disciplinary teams to work together (mainly in computer science and geography) and to promote the results of this research.

The classes of scientific problems

The classes of scientific problems tackled by the GDR : The new scientific orientations of the GDR are based on three classes of problems. The approaches are althougth conceptual and theoretical : (a) The exchange – the building - the sharing of geographical information, (b) The mobility, the reactivity and real time and then (c) the multi-representation of geographical information. This principle allows formalizing the GDR members' question in a deep reflection.

The Working Groups (WG) : The number of the working groups is not fixed (from the scientific point of view and from the duration). The approach is based on a transversal reflection. The WG results are the scientific production of the GDR. These WG provides the visibility from the external or internal point of view. They rely on a displayed thematic, identified teams, clear objectives, and they must have a relevant reactivity to achieve their goals in a given duration. The definition of the objectives may be very wide : research project, book writing, state of the art … Of course new WG may appear during the life of the GDR.

The Working Groups

The retained Working Groups are the following :

•    Location-based services,
•    Risks,
•    Earth Observation,
•    Management of .

The works of this GDR is related and complementary  to the other existant GDRs : The GDR I3 with the social usability dimension and the inherent pluri-disciplinary structure of the GDR SIGMA. The GDR ISIS with the observation more than the image computation provided by the WG Earth Observations. The GDR LiberGéo is an old fellow of the GDR SIGMA.

La participation au GDR

The GDR regroups CNRS laboratories oriented towards computer science, towards human sciences or laboratoires that are not supported by the CNRS. Some companies in the Geographical Information field provided their support.

Can join the GDR, all institutions working on the same (or connected) scientific/applicative problematics as the GDR does. The demands must be sent to :
